Successful Fashion Entrepreneurs - Just Like You: Amy Page DeBlasio

We like to see others succeed because we know that if they can do it, we can do it. In this Blog, I’ll tell you about the successful launch of Amy Page DeBlasio’s brand APD. Her unique, edgy designs are making waves, as she embraces the “slow-fashion” model and sustainability. Here’s her story…

Fashion design stems from our individual creative DNA, and many fashion designers also excel in several different forms of art like drawing, painting, sculpture, writing, and other imagination inspired creations. Amy Page DeBlasio is one of those designers whose creative abilities excel in other areas of the arts, and her fashions reflect her artistic passions. Her multifaceted talents are apparent in every APD design she releases. She strives to make each and every one a wearable work-of-art.

As a proud Providence, Rhode Island native, Amy experienced life as a child through her unique artistic lens. She often combined conventional materials with unexpected components in her drawing, painting, jewelry making, and sculpture. Before she found her niche in fashion, Amy attended the University of Rhode Island and earned two bachelor degrees in:  Textiles, Fashion Merchandising, and Design; and Italian Language and Literature. When she decided to launch her fashion line, APD, which is as unique as she is, she brought in V.Mora for our expertise and guidance.

APD - Amy Page DeBlasio Beginning:

Amy’s passion was to design a collection that pushes conventional norms. Her exuberant personality and edgy artistic perspective inspire her eye-catching designs and express a distinct urban attitude. She creates bold and exotic pieces by pairing different patterns, fabrics, colors, and textures. Her goal is to provoke thought, excitement, and most importantly confidence in her customers.

Amy allows intuition to be her inspiration, and designs what she likes. She does not get wrapped up in chasing trends but rather she does her own thing. The results are fashion pieces that are out of the box. She draws much of her inspiration from her close connections with customers. She forges many of these connections through a strong social media presence and constant interaction. Amy thrives on learning how her customers feel when they wear her garments.

Amy’s brand, APD - Amy Page DeBlasio, launched in 2017 and has already gained a very strong, loyal following.  She has a solid online presence, with a beautifully designed easy-to-navigate eCommerce website, and she is also very active on her social media accounts.

Amy likes to treat her followers by posting behind-the-scenes glimpses of her design process, as well as sneak peeks of her new collections. She also posts very entertaining short videos to express her personality and delight her followers.

Commitment to “Slow Fashion” and Sustainability:

One of the primary things that sets Amy’s brand apart from others is her commitment to sustainability. She uses eco-friendly materials whenever possible and has a “slow fashion” business model approach. She only produces limited quantities of each design to reduce waste. Her dedication to sustainability is reflected in the high quality of her pieces.. She pays attention to the detail on every stitch because her creations are meant to be treasured for many years to come.

Amy’s design aesthetic is a mix of classic and contemporary. She takes inspiration from a range of sources, including art, music, and architecture. Her collections often feature bold patterns and unexpected details, such as frayed edges, oversized buttons, and contrasting fabrics.

She aims to create each piece as a “wearable work-of-art” and strives to eliminate fashion waste from worn out or out-of-style designs that get discarded when the trends or seasons change. Her customers appreciate this “sustainable” sensibility, and understand why when some of her more popular designs experience sell outs. Amy tries to produce what will sell, and only creates more of a design when the demand is clear.

Amy is also committed to keeping her design studio in Rhode Island, and her manufacturing only in the United States, where labor-friendly OSHA laws ensure that none of her collections are created by individuals who are being exploited and working in poor conditions.

Collection Highights:

The APD brand offers unique, one-of-a-kind designs for both men and women. Some of the most popular items in her collection are her jackets. They feature a cropped design with a unique asymmetrical hemline. Her  jackets have a vintage feel, with distressed details and washed colors. They have quickly become fan favorites and have often been spotted on fashion bloggers and influencers posts around the world.

Other standout sellers are her “Violet” dresses. They are flowing maxi dresses with a high-low hemline and intricate beadwork. The dresses are made from soft, sustainable fabrics and are available in a range of designs and colors.

Business Model:

Like very many prudent fashion entrepreneurs, Amy decided to embrace online distribution as a way to keep start-up costs lower and under control. Her artistically designed, easy-to-navigate eCommerce site: https://amypagedeblasio.com/ features her collections for both men and women. She even categorizes the navigation bar to make shopping simple. Currently, in addition to overall men and women’s fashions, her navigation bar offers categories like Tweeds, New, and Sale items.

She drives traffic to her eCommerce site with a strong presence on social media including Facebook, Instagram, and some very creative and entertaining videos on TikTok. These social media resources allow her to connect with her community, entertain them, forge stronger relationships, assist customer service, attract  influencers, and expand her target audience.

Growing and evolving:

The APD - Amy Page DeBlasio brand philosophy is all about self-expression and individual empowerment. Amy wants her pieces to make women and men feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. In Amy’s own words, “I believe that fashion is a form of self-expression and a way for people to showcase their personality and individuality. I design for individuals who are confident and unapologetic in their style.”

It’s clear that the APD brand has successfully launched and faces a bright future ahead in the fashion industry. With Amy’s unique designs, commitment to sustainability, and focus on self-expression, she stands out as an emerging fashion designer to watch.
