Incorporating digital and 3D design is something that the fashion industry is evolving towards. In this blog, I will show you an example of how to pair fashion with new and upcoming technology like the Metaverse.

Technology is such a big part of fashion. The cotton gin made harvesting cotton for fabric faster, the sewing machine made sewing easier, and now digital design and 3D design is making fashion more uniquely integrated into our world. 

Fashion, in the past couple of years has been leaning and evolving to be more and more digitally integrated. The pandemic halted some fashion shows, and the fashion industry evolved by broadcasting shows online. Now, fashion is integrating into a new sector of 3D design, NFTs, Augmented Reality and the Metaverse. 

What is the Metaverse? 

The Metaverse is a digital world where you can use an avatar to play games, socialize and buy and trade crypto assets. An example of a crypto asset would be a 3D digital dress for your avatar. This opens up a whole new world for designers, 3D one of a kind fashion!

What is a NFT?

A NFT is a Non-Fungible Token, crypto asset, that allows you to make 1 of 1 items within the digital world or 1 of 3. This means you have one of a kind items within the digital asset world, and this can be tracked. 

How to Integrate this Technology into your Brand?

You may already have your own brand, and incorporating digital design can help give your brand even more exposure than it already has. This spring brands like Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, and Ralph Lauren are either releasing online collections on these platforms or conducting digital runway shows. 

How to use Digital Design to make Physical Products?

If you don't have a physical line yet you could use digital assets to catapult your funding for your physical line. In places like the metaverse you are able to buy and sell digital assets including designs you create, leaving the door open for the public to help fund your designs to later be shipped all over the world! 

What will help really set your line apart is marrying both digital and physical designs, and perhaps linking them together with augmented reality. 

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality is the marriage of digital and physical worlds. This technology uses your phone camera to bring physical items alive. When you point a camera at the physical item using an application, the physical item will come alive on the phone screen with use of extra graphics, or even the ability to “try on items”.
